Mr. President: Respectfully, Sir, the 14th Amendment...

Section 4.  . The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

"Compare the situation today with the one in 1945. As 12 million GIs came home, seeking jobs in the civilian economy, and as the immense stimulus of World War II ended, economists worried that the U.S. would sink back into the Great Depression. Instead, Washington spent money on initiatives like the GI Bill and the Marshall Plan."

Only one other Democratic country has a debt ceiling...

Barry Bosworth, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, said the U.S. debt ceiling “has no logical basis.”

Congress, through budget and appropriations bills, has sole authority to decide how much the government will spend, so he said “it makes no sense to have a secondary rule to then object to the deficit that emerges from the other decisions.”

The debt ceiling, Bosworth said, is a ”political device” that the minority party uses “to fuss and posture.”

My Olde Dawg..

Perhaps it is that I, myself, am no longer a spring chicken, but I feel a real tenderness toward people exhibiting   kindness and patience with their (obviously) older dog(s).

Recently, Ace and I have developed a new rhythm.  I noticed he was tipping his head up sideways, rather stretching his neck.   Occasionally, he rubs his chin on the floor.  Clearly, it's an itch, and age has compromised his agility so that drawing his hind leg up to scratch must be very uncomfortable.

Now, without words, when I see Ace stretch his neck in that fashion, I simply extend my hands and he comes to me; and, I hope that I am able to scratch that itch in a way that satisfies My Olde Dawg.
